  • Teaching Metals as an elective course to art and non-art majors. It has become a recommended class for pre dental and medical students.

  • Beginning students learn traditional techniques including sawing, texturing, wire and tube rivets, stone setting, hinge construction, and many types of soldering.

  • Advanced students increase their knowledge of learned techniques and are given new concepts such as enameling, moving mechanisms, and non-traditional materials.

  • Students learned how to properly mix acrylic paint color for a full color wheel, effectively use pattern, symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial balance. Materials such as paint, India ink, and recycled materials were explored.

  • Subtractive and additive materials were used to teach students about dimensional composition using wire and plaster. Students were introduced to basic wood working skills in the school wood shop including a variety of saws, pneumatic tools and slot construction.

  • In my studio I teach fellow jewelry enthusiast how to use a jewelers saw, acid etching , die forming, wire and tube rivets, various stone setting techniques, cuttlefish casting, and a variety of soldering methods. Small samples are given to learn basic skills. Students are then free to make what they wish each class.

  • Many studio students are my former university jewelry class goers. These students bring a fantastic dynamic to the class because of their formal training. I have had the opportunity to have many students take class from my small studio several times; including a student who has faithfully been with me for 14 years.

  • Students wishing to gain knowledge about traditional jewelry making techniques were given several samples to learn cutting, soldering, and cold connections. Each sample is a finished wearable piece so that students truly understand how to utilize the information they are given.

  • Classes taught ranged from full semester to two day and one day workshops. Workshops included centrifugal casting of silver and gold.

  • 7 week class taught in the metalsmithing lab to individuals wanting to learn basic jewelry making skills. Students made silver rings and learned to set a stone on a hand fabricated chain.

  • I was asked to fill in to teach a jewelry class for a week to 5th grade children during the summer. I showed students how to texture metal and use thin copper to create reliefs. Recycled donations were used to make necklaces on cords and the bead loom allowed them to quickly make bracelets for one another.

  • I produced a series of pieces based on the automotive industry in Indiana. A tea pot, two rings, a necklace, and a cake server were fabricated and shown in three regional galleries.

  • Amsterdam born textile artist Felieke provided a lecture, critique with students, and hands on demonstrations of her beading and construction techniques.

  • I was chosen to be profiled on a half hour show where I demonstrated in one segment how to make a necklace with sterling silver and origami balloons and a second segment showed how to create a fast spiral magnet.
